The Church on 68 began in 1999 when Whitman and Ressie Toland were sent to Greensboro from their home church, The Rock of Asheville. God’s desire for the Triad is clear to us. With His guidance, we are to rebuild, repair, revive, and restore this region to His original intent. In order for this to happen, we know that we cannot rely on one person, one ministry, or one church. We, as the body of Christ must learn to relate to one another, to discover each other’s strengths, and to embrace what God is doing everywhere.
The call on the Church on 68 is rooted in the recognition that our city has been plagued by four things: racial tensions, the breakdown of family, the fear of not having enough, and the habit of going to church. These strongholds have, for years, held the purposes of God and the people of God at bay, but we believe they can and will be reversed as we walk together in worship, in prayer, in giving, and in serving.
Isaiah 2:2 says, “In the last days, the mountain of the Lord’s house will be the highest of all— the most important place on earth. It will be raised above the other hills, and people from all over the world will stream there to worship.” It is clearly God’s will that His church be the most influential place in all the earth. As we walk out our calling, we do not separate from, but engage and love the society in which we live.
At the Church on 68, we seek God daily in order to create an atmosphere where God’s people can meet with Him.
Please join with us as we continue meeting with God and discovering the steps needed to restore our home to God’s original intent.
